Aleppo, SANA – The Handcraft Association of Goldsmiths and Jewelry Making of Aleppo put a 1 kg gold bullion bar into circulation on Thursday.
The Association’s Chairman Abdo Mousalli said in a celebration held on the occasion that this is the first time a 1 kg gold bar is made in Syria.
By this, Syria is ranked 1st among countries in the Middle East and 15th internationally in terms of making a 1 kg gold bar, according to Mousalli.
“This is a sign that the national economy is still strong,” he said.
The new golden bullion bar is 24 karat. It is 12 cm long, 5 cm wide and 1 cm thick.
A picture of the Syrian map is featured on the bar, with the word “Syria” printed below it, along with the English letters of S and A, the two initial letters starting the words Syria and Aleppo.
Mousalli estimated the value of the new gold bar at approximately SYP 10.7 million.
Goldsmith George Farah said the making of the bar took around a year, and it was carried out in cooperation with the administration of the Central Bank of Syria, noting that 25 to 50 1 kg gold bars can be made daily now.
