Geneva, SANA – On the sidelines of the 70th World Health Assembly, Health Minister Nizar Yazigi discussed with the new Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adhanom cooperation in the health sector and the WHO’s role in meeting the health sector’s needs in Syria due to the war which the country is exposed to.
Yazigi referred to the WHO’s important role in providing support and expertise in strategic fields aimed at achieving the Syrian Health Ministry’s objectives and maintain the public health and provide its requirements.
The Minister affirmed the necessity to increase support to the Ministry in order to meet the citizens’ health needs, mainly since the health sector is facing challenges due to coercive unilateral economic measures imposed on the Syrian people.
For his part, Adhanom said that his vision as the new director is to have a world in which everyone could lead a healthy life, adding that all efforts should lead to comprehensive health coverage for the population.
