Local Administration Minister and UNDP official discuss establishing small and micro enterprises to support displaced families

Damascus, SANA – Local Administration and Environment Minister Hussein Makhlouf discussed on Sunday with the Regional Director of the UN Development Program (UNDP) Samuel Rizk and the accompanying delegation means of enhancing cooperation through carrying out a number of projects according to the priorities of both sides.

Makhlouf, who is also the head of the Higher Committee for Relief, referred to the possibility of cooperation in establishing small and micro enterprises to support displaced families.

He also pointed out to the great attention paid by the Syrian government to the industrial cities and areas, proposing cooperation to secure renewable energy installations for Banias industrial area in Tartous, which hosts 350 shops.

Boosting existing cooperation in the rehabilitation of damaged infrastructure, including sanitary, electricity and water networks, was also focused on.

In turn, Rizk highlighted the importance of cooperation between the two sides in the fields of the humanitarian response plan and the rehabilitation projects, expressing the UNDP readiness to support the services sector in the maintenance and rehabilitation works and through the small and micro enterprises that would contribute to helping affected people in local communities according to the joint MoU between the Ministry and the UNDP.
