Syria, South Korea sign agreement to establish diplomatic relations

Damascus, SANA- Foreign Minister, Mr. Asaad al-Shaibani, received on Thursday a high-level delegation from the Republic of South Korea, headed by Foreign Minister, Cho Tae-yul, in a step which is considered the first of its kind in the track of relations between the two countries.

Foreign Minister and his Korean counterpart signed a diplomatic agreement to establish and enhance friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries to serve the interests of the two friendly peoples. The two sides also agreed to open embassies and exchange diplomatic missions.

They affirmed their willingness to build their relationship on the principles of peaceful coexistence, sovereign equality among states, mutual respect for territorial integrity, and non-interference in each other’s domestic affairs.

The step comes within the framework of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates’ relentless diplomatic efforts to restore the Syrian Arab Republic’s leading role in the region and the world, which it lost because of the policies of the deposed regime.
