Damascus, SANA – A central festival on occasion of the 65th anniversary of the Syrian Arab Student Day was held Monday in Damascus-based Conferences Palace under the title of “Our Limit is Sky” where a documentary on the history of Syrian student progress was screened and the outstanding students among martyrs’ sons from all provinces were also honored.
Assistant Regional Secretary of al-Baath Arab Socialist Party Hilal al-Hilal said that the Student Day is part of Syria’ history and a reminder of the youth’s struggle for achieving the goals of unity, freedom and socialism.
“This occasion comes in a time when the Syrian resilience amazed the whole world,” Hilal said, pointing out the prominent role of students at the local, regional and international levels in clarifying the principled approach of nationalism and Arabism manifested through their full support to the Syrian Arab Army in its war against terrorism.
Head of the National Union of Syrian Students(NUSS), Dr.Ammar Saati said “65 years ago, and in a small school, students gathered chaired by the student Hafez al-Assad and took decisions, depicting their future…the founder then transformed words into action to commence the students’ process”.
“For five years and on, the students have been carrying a book in one hand and a weapon in the other, defending their scientific achievements and defending their fellow students in the universities… they have proved to be up to it,” he added.
Chairman of the Executive Board of the General Union of Arab Students, Ahmad Mubarak al-Shater lauded on behalf of the General Union of Arab Students the steadfastness of the Syrian students, adding that the students who became martyrs have created hope from the bottom of agony.
“The Syrian students are insistent to go on in providing excellent degrees in the field of science and knowledge,” he continued to say.
“Wars launched by colonism, imperialism and Zionism are constantly waged against us, but we are stand still carrying our homeland in our hearts,”al-Shater said, clarifying that President Bashar al-Assad is not only Syria’s’ President but he is also the President of all principled free, honest and resistant Arabs.
Higher Education Minister Dr. Mohammad Amer al-Mardini pointed out the role of the National Union of Syrian Students, which has been remarkably prominent during the years of the unjust war that targets Syria, where the students preserved the educational system and institutions helping the Armed Forces through protecting the internal front
“Despite the transport difficulties, our students are continuing their education process, providing more martyrs only to prove that the process is on,” he added.
Al-Mardini talked about the procedures taken by the Ministry to secure the necessary requirements of the educational process and scientific researches, in addition to upgrading the educational methodologies, utilizing all available potentials.
