Ambassador Ala: Campaign waged by some countries regarding situation in Aleppo obstructs humanitarian initiatives made by Syrian government

Geneva, SANA- Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva Hussam Eddin Ala affirmed that the hysterical campaign waged by countries which are shedding crocodile tears on the suffering of civilians in Aleppo, in collusion with some of officials of the United Nations, led to the obstruction of all humanitarian initiatives launched by the Syrian government in cooperation with the Russian forces since the 28th of July and till now had encouraged terrorists of “Jabhat al-Nusra” and “Ahrar al-sham” to continue to hold thousands of families hostage.

In a statement at the 25the session of the UN Human Rights Council on the conditions in Aleppo held at the UN headquarter in Geneva, Ambassador Ala said that the countries that have pushed for holding sessions and imposing politicized decisions since 2011 under the banner of human rights have not paid attention to the suffering of the Syrians when they supported terrorism and imposed an immoral economic blockade to promote their political agendas.

The Ambassador stressed rejection of all false accusations and manipulation practiced by the UK and its allies within the Human Rights Council and their exploitation of the humanitarian suffering in Aleppo.

Ala added that the humanitarian suffering in Aleppo city is not new as it started since thousands of terrorists, supported by Turkey, attacked some of its neighborhoods in the middle of 2012 and used the citizens as hostages, noting that the tragedy is going on till today as terrorists refuse to leave and prevent civilians and militants who want to from leaving these neighborhoods.

Ala said that the terrorists used these neighborhoods as a platform to launch rocket shells on a daily basis on the rest of the city’s neighborhoods, adding that due to these terrorist attack, tens of civilians are killed daily and a significant material damage has been caused to the residential neighborhoods including schools, churches, mosques, universities and hospitals.

He noted to the collective punishment practiced by Jabhat al-Nusra and its allies to deprive citizens of Aleppo from water and electricity after they have taken control over water and electricity stations in the eastern neighborhoods of the city.

“The reality faced by the majority of Aleppo city’s citizens is absent from the reports of the Human Rights Commissioner, International Commission of Inquiry, Coordinator of Humanitarian Affairs, and it also does not exist in the statements of UK and its partners who only care about the propaganda campaign aimed at demonizing the Syrian government,” he said.

Commenting on the ongoing reconciliations in Syria, Ala said that the settlements implemented by the Syrian government led to restoring security and stability to areas that were facing for years the dominance of armed groups and allowed tens of thousands of families to return to their normal lives, noting that the government also opened humanitarian corridors in Aleppo for evacuating civilians and militants who want to leave the eastern neighborhoods safely as the Syrian Arab Army is currently implementing the cessation of hostilities for specific periods to improve the situation in the city.

He pointed out that the Syrian state made arrangements to transport the wounded and civilians and agreed to cooperate with the UN to carry out the evacuation of the wounded and sick persons from the eastern neighborhoods of the city, adding that army units withdrew in some areas to allow gunmen to leave those neighborhoods via the two corridors as the amnesty decree is still valid.

He concluded by calling on Western and regional countries that claim to be concerned about the stability of the situation in Aleppo to take genuine political steps to ensure the success of the ongoing endeavors.
