Damascus, SANA – Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Fayssal Mikdad discussed on Tuesday with SwissFederal Council Delegate for Humanitarian Aid Manuel Bessler and the accompanying delegation the standing cooperation between Syria and Switzerland in humanitarian aid, with emphasis on increasing Swiss contributions in this regard.
Mikdad relayed to Bessler the gratitude of the Syrian government for the aid provided by Switzerland in the humanitarian field, particularly the 12 ambulances that were delivered to the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC).
He also voiced hope for more coordination between Syria and Switzerland in various fields.
For his part, Bessler asserted the Swiss government’s desire to continue providing humanitarian aid to the Syrian people and to help alleviate their suffering, voicing hope for bolstering communication and coordination between the two sides.
In a statement to journalists after the meeting, Mikdad said the meeting focused on issues related to humanitarian aid, including humanitarian access, the facilitations provided by the Syrian government, and the aid that Switzerland can provide.
The Deputy Minister asserted that the situation in Syria is moving in a positive direction, particularly since the Syrian Arab Army managed to encircle terrorists in Aleppo which will allow the international community to deliver aid to all its areas.
He stressed that terrorist organizations wouldn’t have been able to remain in Aleppo if it hadn’t been for the support provided to the terrorists by the Turkish and Saudi regimes.
Mikdad said that friendly countries and forces allied with Syria have declared that they stand alongside the Syrian Arab Army in the battle against ISIS, al-Nusra, and other terror organizations, asserting that the political process is up to the Syrians, and that no agreement can be reached except through the Syrians themselves and without foreign interference.
For his part, Bessler said that Switzerland is well aware of the difficulties facing the Syrian people, affirming that his country supports the Syrians and that it intends to increase its work in providing humanitarian aid.
He also said that the delivery of the 12 ambulances to the Red Crescent on Monday was the first step in two cooperation projects, hoping to continue cooperation with the Syrian government and the Red Crescent.
