Internal trade minister says Syrian government provides 80 per cent of aid, backs voluntary initiatives

Damascus, SANA-Caretaker Minister of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection Samir Kadi Amin said the government encourages voluntary initiatives for easing the suffering of citizens who have been driven out of their homes by terrorist acts.

Amin, who was taking part in “Sekbet Ramadan (Ramadan Meal)” an imitative marking the holy month of Ramadan, said the government is providing around 80 per cent of the aid and encourages voluntary initiatives in the Syrian society.

Kadi Amin said the initiative offers some 4, 500 meals daily distributed among the displaced citizens in Old Damascus which, the minister says, “has the flavor of volunteerism that has characterized the Syrian people during tough times.”

Alaa Qassem, a volunteer in the initiative, said the team prepares daily meals to be distributed among the displaced dwelling at makeshift shelters in 23 Damascene neighborhoods.
