Moscow: Invitation sent to al-Moallem to attend Geneva talks

Moscow, SANA- Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov said on Wednesday “We don’t know who will head the Syrian government delegation to Geneva talks,” confirming that UN Special Envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura sent an invitation to Syrian Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem.

“An invitation was sent from de Mistura to al-Moallem in his capacity as the Syrian Foreign Minister and head of the government negotiating team” RT website quoted Gatilov as saying.

The United Nations announced yesterday that de Mistura sent the invitations to the Syrian participants according to terms of UNSC resolution No. 2254.

Geneva talks between the Syrian government and opposition are expected to begin next Friday.
