UK: We are ready to work to support a comprehensive and prosperous future for Syrian people

New York, SANA- UK welcomed the formation of the new Syrian government, affirming its full readiness to work with Syria to support a comprehensive, stable, and prosperous future for the Syrian people.

UK Deputy Political Coordinator Jess Jambert-Gray said in a statement at the UN Security Council at a session convened by Algeria and Somalia regarding the Israeli attacks on Syria that “Syria has made further positive progress in its political transition, and we welcome the announcement of formation of the new Syrian government and stand ready to work with the Syrian government to support an inclusive, stable, and prosperous future for the Syrian people.”

According to the British Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office website, Gray considered the repeated Israeli attacks on Syrian territory to threaten to destabilize not only Syria, but the entire region.

She expressed Britain’s concern about these attacks, which are in no one’s interest, and stressed the need for “Israel” to adhere to international law and the 1974 Disengagement Agreement, respect the territorial integrity of Syria and avoid the worrying escalation whose repercussions would be suffered by the Syrian people.

Gray noted her country’s aspirations to achieve several steps in Syria, including the protection of human rights and unrestricted access to humanitarian aid.

She considered the formation of the new Syrian government an important milestone in the political transition process, and that the essence of this comprehensive representation must be transferred to all state institutions.

Gray reiterated Britain’s pledge to provide $207 million in essential humanitarian aid to Syria, stressing the need to focus at the present time on supporting Syrians to rebuild their country after 14 years of suffering under the tyranny of the defunct regime.
