Damascus, SANA – Hundreds of food packages were distributed Thursday to people who were displaced from Yarmouk Camp neighborhood in Damascus city and moved to makeshift centers in Yalda, Babila and Beit Saham in the countryside of Damascus.
Thousands of residents, who include Palestinian refugees and Syrian citizens, have managed to flee the terrorists-besieged neighborhood after terrorists from the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) recently entered it and have committed acts of killing and abduction against the civilians.
The distribution of aid, which included 1000 food packages and 1200 packets of bread, was carried out by the General Authority for Palestine Arab Refugees (GAPAR) and the United Nations Relief and Work Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) under the government’s supervision.
Food and non-food supplies are also provided to residents who fled Yarmouk Camp and moved to the makeshift center in Zeinab al-Hilaliyeh School in al-Tadamun neighborhood.
GAPAR Director-General Ali Mustafa told SANA that up to 64882 food packages and 11718 health parcels have been distributed to the people of Yarmouk Camp since late January, 2014.
On April 9, the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC) and the Higher Relief Committee sent 18 trucks loaded with humanitarian aid to the areas of Yalda, Babila and Beit Sahm.
The batch was the fourth to be delivered that week, while two mobile clinics had earlier been sent to the three areas.
