Damascus, SANA- The World Theater Day was celebrated on Monday on stage of the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts, the first academic incubator of drama specialist graduates.
This year’s celebration was marked by the honoring of the first batch of graduates from the Department of Dramatic Studies at the Institute in 1988, and the 8th batch of graduates from the Acting Department.
The celebration also included the opening of a book fair in cooperation with the Syrian General Book Authority, which included a wide range of books specialized in the field of theater, cinema, and music, in addition to authored and translated novels, series and periodicals.
Acting studios and the ground floor hall for rehearsals were opened after rehabilitation, in addition to an exhibition of the productions of the Scenography Department under the supervision of the department’s professors and implemented by first, second and fourth year students.
A number of theatrical shows were also performed during the event.
“The theatrical movement in Syria is very important, and the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts is the guarantee of its sustainability and development…The Ministry of Culture will remain supportive of spreading intellectual awareness and culture,” Culture Minister Dr. Lubanah Mshaweh told journalists.
For his part, the Director General of the Syrian General Authority for Books, Dr. Nayef al-Yassin, stated that the book fair, which continues until the end of this month, includes about 500 titles from the authority’s publications, some of which date back to 2009.
Dean of the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts, Dr. Tamer al-Arbeed, expressed happiness at celebrating the International Theater Day through a series of events produced by the institute, which is the mainstay of professional theatrical work.
