People’s Assembly discusses means of providing oil derivatives, gas, and basic materials

Damascus, SANA – The Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister and Internal Trade and Consumer Protection Minister reviewed procedures taken to ensure the availability of oil derivatives, gas, and essential goods.

During a People’s Assembly session held on Monday, Assembly members focused on the need to establish a database for citizens’ basic needs and the efforts exerted to meet their demands.

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Suleiman al-Abbas stressed that the issue of providing gas to people and power plants will be resolved within the next few days in a manner which will reflect positively on the situation of electricity, particularly after the return of Hayyan company factories to work a week ago and the gradual reoperation at al-Shaer fields yesterday.

He highlighted the Ministry’s strategy for distributing fuel across the provinces and the arising challenges due to the repeated terrorist attacks and unjust sanctions on the oil sector in Syria which reduced production to its lowest level.

For his part, Minister of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection Hassan Safiyeh stressed that the Ministry will go ahead with its policy for preserving stable prices, providing all basic food materials, and combating monopolization.

The People’s Assembly referred several bills to the concerned committees for study.
