Al-Qadiri: Government provides all support to civil society associations

Damascus, SANA- Social Affairs and Labor Minister, Rima al-Qadiri, has said that the Syrian government provides various forms of support to the civil society associations to be able to meet all the humanitarian needs of the citizens affected by the crisis in Syria.

Meeting UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Head of the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), Mark Lowcock, on Thursday, al-Qadiri, added that the government is working to develop work of NGOs and civil society associations and enhance their technical and institutional capacities on the basis of partnership and commitment to performance.

She affirmed the importance of UN organizations’ contribution to the relief and humanitarian work, in coordination with the Syrian government in this field.

The Minister said that the sanctions imposed on the Syrian people increase the suffering which requires all international organizations to work on lifting these sanctions.

For his part, Lowcock underlined the importance of such meetings to closely get acquainted with the reality of the humanitarian work and the relief needs in Syrian in way that would help achieve the response plans.

He hailed the government efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Syrians, emphasizing the need to intensify cooperation and coordination for reaching to all needy people in all areas.
