New York, SANA – The United Nations’ General Assembly on Thursday adopted a unanimous resolution rejecting U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to recognize al-Quds as Israel’s capital and begin the process of moving its embassy there, noting that any measure to change the status of al-Quds is deemed null and void.
During the emergency session of the U.N. General Assembly held on Thursday, 128 member states voted in favor of the resolution, the U.S. and the Israeli occupation entity and 7 other states voted against it while 35 states abstained.
Before the voting, Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki called upon all countries of the world to vote in favor of the Palestinian right and reject the U.S. decision.
He added that the U.S. use of veto prevents the UN Security Council from performing its missions in preserving the international security and peace despite the fact that 14 states announced support to the draft resolution submitted by Egypt which stresses the legal, political and historical status of al-Quds City.
Al-Maliki described Trump’s decision as a violation of the rights of Palestinian people, the entire Arab Nation, the Muslims and Christians in the world as well as Jerusalem’s religious status, stressing that it serves the Israeli entity as well as the extremist and terrorist groups and help them implement their schemes in the region.
He called for setting up an international multiple mechanism under the auspices of the UN, based on the international legitimacy as to represent the international will to end occupation and reach a solution that ensure establishment of security and stability.
