Damascus, SANA- Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister Fayssal Mikdad affirmed that the aim of what is happening in the region and the terrorist war on Syria is to create conditions to facilitate the passage of the decision to recognize Al-Quds (Jerusalem) as the capital of the Israeli occupation entity.
In an interview with the Iranian al-Alam news TV channel which aired on Thursday, Mikdad said that Syria has made considerable achievements in its ongoing war against terrorism and continues eliminating the remaining pockets of terrorists in some areas in Syria, in cooperation with allies and friends.
He stressed that the Israeli occupation entity will pay the price of its support for Daesh (ISIS) terrorist organization and his direct dealing with Jabhat al-Nusra terrorists, as well as its recurring attacks on Syrian territory, backed by US and Western countries.
Mikdad said that the Syrian government is committed to the success of Geneva talks and Astana meetings, noting that without Syria’s cooperation, these efforts would not have continued so far, in addition to the local efforts in the framework of the national reconciliations and de -escalation zones.
Syria welcomes the Russia’s initiative on holding Syrian National Dialogue Congress in Sochi, he added.
Mikdad went on to say that the “Riyadh 2” meeting represented a great violation of Security Council resolutions as it resulted in an opposition attributed to the Saudi regime in the presence of UN Special Envoy Staffan de Mistura, who was a false witness to what happened at the meeting which came out with a document full of conditions aimed at undermining the Geneva talks
He called for annulling the Riyadh 2 statement in order to prepare for discussions with the Syrian parties, which must be credible, have an impact and presence on the ground, and not be part of the Saudi regime.
Mikdad said that the Astana meetings completed what was required of them and achieved what the Geneva talks did not achieve due to the behavior of de Mistura and others parties that have not dealt with the Syrian national interest as a priority.
Regarding the demining issue which is being discussed in Astana, Mikdad said that Syria is ready to deal with the United Nation in this regard especially when it respects its Charter, and is committed to the sovereignty of states and does not allow it to be used against the
interests of peoples.
