CEIRPP demands Washington to rescind its decision on occupied Jerusalem

New York, SANA – The UN General Assembly Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People (CEIRPP) demanded administration of the U.S. President Donald Trump’s to rescind its decision on recognition of the occupied Jerusalem as the capital of the Israeli occupation entity and the transfer of the U.S. Embassy to the city.

In a statement adopted by the committee following an urgent meeting held Thursday, it declared that such unilateral procedures constitute a flagrant violation of the relevant UN Security Council resolutions, particularly resolutions  476 (1980), 478 (1980), and 2334 (2016) and the UN General Assembly’s resolution No. 181 .

The committee reiterated its support and ever-lasting solidarity with the Palestinian people in their struggle to restore their inalienable rights and achieve their legitimate national aspirations, especially the right to self-determination and freedom in an independent Palestinian state.

The statement expressed the committee’s deep concern over the US decision on Jerusalem taking into account that such decisions encourage the Israeli occupation entity to continue its illegal measures, including the illegitimate annexation of Eastern Jerusalem and fueling tensions which have negative long-term repercussions on the Middle East region and the entire world.

It stressed the international community’s condemnation of these procedures aiming at changing the demographic structure in the Palestinian territories since 1967, calling for intensifying efforts to enhance security and peace through ending the Israeli occupation.
