World Robot Olympiad Costa Rica 2017 kicks off with participation of Syria

Damascus, SANA_ The World Robot Olympiad Costa Rica 2017 entitled “Sustainable Development and Benefiting from Alternative Energy” kicked off in San Jose, Costa Rica, on Saturday with participation of Syria.

Head of the Syrian Computer Society (SCS), Dr. Salah al-Doahji stressed, in a telephone conversation with SANA , importance of the participation in the Olympiad in terms of developing the creativity of young people and their skills in learning science, technology and design and motivating them to pursue their scientific achievements to be able to achieve the development needs of society in the future.

Al-Doahji pointed to the aspiration of the Syrian teams to achieve outstanding results in Costa Rican finals, emphasizing that students have all the qualifications that enable them to gain.

Sixty countries will compete in the 3-day Olympiad.

Syria, by the beginning of 2015, has officially gained membership of the World Robot Olympiad .

The World Robot Olympiad(WRO) is an international non-profit organization formed in 2004 with 55 current members, and youths from member countries compete in local competitions and the best teams are selected to compete on the international level.

The WRO brings together young people from all over the world to develop their creativity, design and problem solving skills through challenging and educational robot competitions and activities. The international WRO final takes place once every year in November and teams qualify from national competitions to represent their countries.
