Russian Defense Ministry denies reports on death of Russian servicemen in Syria

Moscow, SANA – Russian Defense Ministry denied information reported by media outlets about the killing of five Russian soldiers on the road between the cities of Banias and Jableh.

Spokesman for the Russian Defense Ministry Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov said on Sunday that this information is false and incorrect.

“The reports of the Qatari broadcaster Al Jazeera about the alleged deaths of Russian servicemen in Syria are yet another disinformation… All Russian soldiers in the Syrian Arab Republic are safe and sound and fulfilling their duties,” Konashenkov added.

He also expressed regret over the broadcaster’s “spreading fakes.”

On Saturday night, media outlets circulated information on an explosion of a Russian military car near the city of Lattakia, with the reports claiming that five Russian servicemen were killed in the blast.
