Workshop on U.N.’s Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women held

Damascus, SANA – The U.N.’s Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) and the UN Security Council resolution 1325 on women’s participation in the decision making to establish peace were the focus of the workshop held Sunday at the Damascus-based al-Sham Hotel.

The workshop, organized by the Syrian Commission for Family and Population Affairs in cooperation with the UN Population Fund, underlined the importance of the CEDAW which provides for the equality of men and women, of human rights and fundamental freedoms in the political, economic, social, cultural, civil or any other field.
Syria joined the CEDAW in 2002.

The UN Population Fund works in over 150 countries around the world and cooperate with state governments and non-governmental organizations with the aim of helping give women access to reproductive health care and family planning services.
