Rio de Janeiro, SANA – Syrian athlete Majd Eddin Ghazal qualified on Monday morning for the finals in the high jump competitions at the Rio Olympics currently being held in Brazil.
Ghazal managed to jump 222 cm from the first try, 226 from the first try, and 229 from the first try, achieving the rank 5 in the Group B of the qualifiers.
Ghazal is due to participate in the finals on Wednesday, facing off against 14 athletes: Derek Drouin (Canada), Tikhomir Ivanov (Bulgaria), Robert Grabarz (Britain), Erik Kynard (USA), Mutaz Essa Barshim (Qatar), Bohdan Bondarenko (Ukraine), Andriy Protsenko (Ukraine), Trevor Barry (Bahamas), Donald Thomas (Bahamas), Brandon Starc (Australia), Luis Joel Castro (Puerto Rico), Jaroslav Baba (Czech Republic), Kyriakos Ioannou (Cyprus), and Dimitrios Chondrokoukis (Cyprus).
