Damascus, SANA – Prime Minister Imad Khamis held on Thursday a special meeting with the ministers of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection, Interior and Petroleum and Mineral Resources.
A plan for securing the citizens’ requirements of basic needs and food supplies was approved during the meeting, which was held in the Internal Trade and Consumer Protection Ministry. A new mechanism for market control work was also adopted.
The participants said in a statement issued at the end of the meeting that there was a transparent discussion of the issue of the monopoly of goods, the positive intervention institutions and import licenses that has led to increasing prices of goods in the markets.
According to the statement, the participants stressed the necessity of controlling favoritism and carrying out effective monitoring of gas stations to confront smuggling and monopoly of petroleum products, proposing increasing the market control staffs through employing workers of stopped companies after training them.
