Damascus, SANA – Foreign and Expatriates Ministry stressed Syria’s support for the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) in defending its sovereignty and condemnation of the sanctions targeting its leadership.
In a statement on Thursday, the Foreign Ministry said out of its commitment to the international conventions and in line with the UN goals and principles on respecting the sovereignty of states and their peoples’ self-determination right and the principle of non-
interference in countries’ domestic affairs, Syria stands by Democratic Korea in defending its sovereignty and protecting its people’s rights.
The statement stressed Syria’s condemnation of the sanctions that targeted the leadership of Democratic Korea, dismissing them as transgression of the Korean people’s will and their right to self-determination.
Syria stands against the increased militarization of the Korean peninsula through the deployment of the US missile shield to South Korea, said the statement, adding that Syria stresses on the need of establishing peace and security in the Korean peninsula through dialogue among the Koreans.
