The People’s Assembly of the second legislative round holds its first session

Damascus, SANA – The People’s Assembly of the second legislative term held its first session of the first ordinary round chaired by the eldest members Abdul-Aziz Terad al-Melhem.

Al-Melhem opened the first session, as the secretariat was assumed by the youngest MPs Dima Suleiman and Anas Zrei’ and then the Chairman chose two observers among the MPs where they all assume the interim office, whose task is terminated once the permanent members of the Assembly are elected in accordance with provisions of Paragraph A of the fourth Article of the Parliament’s Rules of Procedures.

The Secretary read Decree No. 127 for 2016 which includes the names of the winners of Parliament membership for the second legislative term and Decree No 146 for 2016 stipulating for calling upon the People’s Assembly of the second legislative round to hold a session for the first time on Monday.

Al-Melhem was sworn in and he called upon the MPs to individually take oath.

Later, Hadiyeh Khalaf Abbas was elected as the Speaker of the People’s Assembly uncontested and Najdat Ismail Anzour was elected as the Deputy Speaker. Khaled al-Abboud and Rami al-Saleh were elected as Secretaries and Maher Qawarma and Atef al-Zeibaq were elected as observers.

People’s Assembly holds three ordinary sessions per year, as it could call for extraordinary session upon a decision of the Speaker of the Assembly, upon a written request of the President or upon a written request of a third of the MPs.

The last session of 12th ordinary round for the first legislative term was held on 31, 3, 2016.
