Environment Minister discusses with FAO official in Syria enhancing cooperation

Damascus, SANA- Minister of State for Environment Affairs Nazira Sarkis discussed with resident representative of Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Syria Eriko Hibi means of enhancing joint cooperation to implement programs in the field of environment and to meet the needs of the agricultural sector.

Minister Sarkis said that the Syrian government was among the first to join international conventions related to environment through seeking to protect the environment, hailing the fruitful cooperation with FAO.

Sarkis explained that the ministry has a number of projects and plans that will be the basis for the implementation of joint programs, expressing hope that 2016 will be a year of fruitful activities.

Sarkis stressed the need to implement the projects discussed earlier with the organization which can in turn provide income and food.

In turn, Hibi pointed out the importance of cooperation with the Environment Ministry and benefiting from the expertise available, noting that FAO is keen to rehabilitate irrigation systems to ensure agricultural productivity of the land.
