Thirty paintings on revelation of beauty through ugliness showcased in Damascus

Damascus, SANA – Thirty paintings of different sizes and topics focusing on how to make beauty out of ugly things and shining a spotlight on Syria in its struggle against the obscurant mentality were showcased at al-Sayyed Hall in Damascus.

Plastic artists Mohammed Ghannoum, Kholoud al-Seba’ei, Ibrahim Hameid and Koro Suleiman are taking part in the exhibition which lasts till April 17th.

The exhibition conveys a message to the entire world that the Syrians are still steadfast and adherent to their homeland and life will go on despite destruction.

In a statement to SANA, artist Ghannoum underlined the growing importance of plastic art, noting that he is participating with 8 paintings which highlight the beauty of calligraphy and its figures and using it as a method to resemble the suffering and burdens of current times.

Suleiman’s participation includes 21 oil paintings on different sized canvases (40cm x 50 cm and 60 cm x 50 cm) depicting the beauty of sunflower and its symbolism as a way to express himself, his feelings, pain and sorrow over the destruction of Syria.

In turn, al-Seba’ei, who participates with four 50 cm x 70 cm paintings, said that she wanted to shed light on the Old city of Damascus, its homes, neighborhoods and nature, adding that she used the red color to express the suffering of all Syrians under current circumstances.
