People in Hasaka reject “federal region in northern Syria”, stress adherence to unity

Hasaka, SANA – The social and popular figures in Hasaka city announced on Sunday their rejection of the so-called “federal region in northern Syria” declaration and of any project that would affect Syria’s unity and territorial integrity.

“No bargaining on the unity and sovereignty of Syria,” said a statement issued at the end of a popular meeting in Ghweiran neighborhood in Hasaka city, denouncing all measures and plans that may harm national unity.

This popular reaction came in response to the declaration of “federal region in northern Syria” announced few days ago by the participants in “al-Rmeilan meeting”.

The statement dismissed what was announced in “al-Rmeilan meeting” as “a step with dubious aims directly linked to the hostile imperialist projects.”

The participants in Ghweiran meeting affirmed that Hasaka province is an integral part of the Syrian geography. “We will not accept any attempt to separate it from the Syrian body,” they said.

They also stressed that the Kurds are an integral part of the Syrian social fabric, calling for strengthening the bonds of national unity and the one-destiny principle.

The meeting was attended by a large number of economic, social and religious figures and the locals of Ghweiran neighborhood in Hasaka city.

On Saturday, the Assembly of Syrian Tribes and Clans in Hasaka province stressed its firm rejection of the declaration of the so-called “federal region in northern Syria”, saying such an attempt to undermine Syria’s sovereignty is doomed to failure.
