Damascus, SANA – On occasion of the International Women’s Day, the Syrian Family Planning Association (SFPA) organized a number of activities that target women available in the clinics of the SFPA in several provinces.
The activities, organized in cooperation with United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) aim at empowering women through raising their awareness over life skills such as decision making and self-confidence as well as gender equality.
The activities included screening documentaries on women who struggled to change their lives and the lives of their families thanks to their determination and strife.
Other short films produced by SFPA were also played within the event focusing on early marriage, education of girls and the empowerment of women in addition to organizing open dialogues on women issues and providing medical care and advice by SFPA mobile clinics spread in Damascus, Damascus Countryside, Homs, Hama, Aleppo, Lattakia, Tartous and Sweida provinces.
In a similar context, UNFPA office in Syria organized initiatives and activities that aim at shedding light on gender equality, stressing in a statement, SANA got a copy of, commitment to supporting the Syrian women, who are determined to overcome difficulties and challenges.
Representative of the United Nations Population Fund in Syria Massimo Diana said “Today, on the International Women’s Day, we reaffirm our commitment to supporting Syrian women who are determined to stand strong and united in the face of challenges”.
“In cooperation with the Syrian Archbishopric-Relief & Development Centre, UNFPA is inaugurating two new women safe spaces in Damascus Countryside and Homs to promote women’s potentials and to provide means of women protection,” he added.
