Hasaka officials discuss with international organizations urgent services issues

Hasaka, SANA – Hasaka Governor Eng. Mohammad Za’al al-Ali discussed with Chairwoman of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Qamishli city means to enhance cooperation to improve the services situation and living conditions of the province’s locals.

The Governor said work at the current stage is focused on restoring services to the southern region in Hasaka after stability and security were restored to it lately, calling on all humanitarian organizations to intensify their efforts to secure services and help people return to their homes.

He referred to the reopening of 118 schools and continued aid delivery to the people of the targeted area, which includes al-Shaddadi city, al-Arisha town and Markada town, in addition to the continued efforts to ensure the reopening of medical centers and restoring phone services.

The OCHA office chairwoman said the locals of the southern region of Hasaka had suffered a lot due to the ISIS-inflicted terrorist acts, stressing that the office is working to immediately provide urgent assistance to deliver to the people, in cooperation with the local partners and the charity associations operating in the province.

She called for setting up a joint plan between the local government parties and the OCHA to guarantee full restoration of services, highlighting the need to remove mines left behind by ISIS terrorists as they remain an obstacle to the aid efforts and a threat to civilian lives.

In a relevant context, Hasaka Public Health Directorate discussed with representatives of international organizations and charity associations the plan to implement pediatric nutrition surveillance and the preparations to launch the upcoming anti-polio vaccination campaign targeting children under five, which is scheduled to start next Sunday and is meant to target 2.8 million children around the country.

Representatives of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the World Food Program (WFP), the World Health Organization (WHO) and number of charity and local associations in Hasaka province participated in the meeting.
