Khartoum, SANA- The permanent Bureau of the Arab Journalists’ Union stressed that Syria is a sovereign state and the political solution is the only option to the crisis in Syria , calling for activating the Syrian-Syrian dialogue to let the Syrian people determine their own future away from external pressure and reach a solution that ensures its security and stability and its territorial integrity.
The Bureau added in its decisions and recommendations within the final statement of its meetings in the Sudanese capital Khartoum on Monday that terrorism is a global phenomenon which must be defeated, noting the need to unite the efforts of the international community to confront it since it targets security and stability in all countries worldwide and to work for drying up the sources of terrorism and sources of support and funding.
The statement refused any attempts to link terrorism with Islam, denouncing anti-Arab and Muslims media campaigns and called for adapting a media strategy to counter the distortion and misconceptions campaigns about terrorism.
The statement also stressed the need to distinguish between terrorism and the rights of peoples in resist for liberating their lands from occupation and restoring their legitimate rights in accordance with international resolutions, calling for holding an international conference under the supervision of the United Nations to develop a definition for terrorism and an agreement on cooperation among countries to combat this phenomenon which has no link to any religion, race or language.
The statement stressed that the occupation is on top of terrorism and its worst forms and expressed strong condemnation of terrorism practiced by the Zionist entity in the occupied Palestinian territories and condemned strongly the crimes of the occupation and breaking into the courtyards of al-Aqsa Mosque and their repressive practices against Palestinians.
The statement also called for keeping the Palestinian issue the central issue for all Arabs.
The Permanent Bureau of the Arab Journalists’ Union condemned the terrorist bombings that targeted Lebanon,
Paris and some Arab countries and all terrorist forces that are active in the Arab world since they pose a threat to the Arab world and called for taking all possible measures to destroy terrorist bases which distort the Arab and Muslim world.
In a statement to SANA reporter, Head of the Journalists’ Union Elias Murad said the recommendation regarding the crisis in Syria was clear emphasizing the territorial integrity of Syria and that the only solution to the crisis is the political solution, pointing out that the Permanent Bureau meetings discussed terrorism and that the most important recommendations called for holding an international conference to define terrorism and differentiate between resistance and terrorism since there are parties that want to confuse these two concepts.
Murad said that the recommendation to hold an Arab conference about media in the face of terrorism comes under a proposal by Syria.
Murad added that during the meetings, the Syrian delegation clarified the positions of Syria and the negative role played by some foreign media by pressing on the International Union of Journalists to take aggressive positions against the Syrian state.
