Damascus, SANA –Activities of the 3rd Environmental Research Conference organized by the State Ministry for Environmental Affairs under the motto “The environmental challenges and means of tackling them” kicked off on Monday at Damascus University.
The conference also aims at enhancing interaction, information exchange and communication among the participants in the field of environmental and scientific issues.
In her speech at the opening ceremony, Minister of State for Environment Affairs Nazira Sarkis said that the conference will focus on the latest and most important scientific researches of applying values and useful economic feasibility that serve tackling the environmental problems.
Sarkis cited the doubling challenges facing the environment, mainly the lack of water, the deterioration of lands and desertification in addition to inadequate capabilities for managing waste, damage of the coastal and marine environment, air pollution and the implications of the global warming due to climate change and the high rate of
population growth as well as rapid economic and urbanization growth.
The 4-day conference will also discuss the latest research developments connected with environment, wastes, renewable energy and oil pollution other relevant issues.
