Putin, Khamenei reject imposing external dictations on Syrians

Tehran, SANA – Russian President Vladimir Putin and Leader of the Islamic Revolution in Iran Ali Khamenei asserted that it’s impossible to achieve a political settlement in Syria via external dictations.

During their meeting on the sideline of the 3rd Gas Exporting Countries Forum held in Tehran on Monday, Putin and Khamenei stressed that Moscow and Tehran are in agreement on rejecting attempts to dictate options for the political settlement in Syria, and that there can be no alternative to a settlement implemented by the Syrian people themselves.

Talks during the meeting focused primarily on the crises in the region, particularly the situation in Syria, with the two sides exchanging opinions extensively in this regard.

This visit, which marks Putin’s first visit to Tehran since 2007, will see talks between the Russian President and Iranian officials for the purpose of enhancing cooperation between the two countries.

President Putin: We will continue cooperation with Iran in counter-terrorism
President Putin and his Iranian counterpart, Hassan Rouhani, said the two countries will continue cooperation in counter-terrorism and will boost cooperation on the crisis in Syria.

In a press conference, President Rouhani said terrorism poses threat to the entire world and there is an urgent need to coordinate and unify efforts to eradicate it.

In turn, President Putin said Russia will continue its cooperation with Iran in fighting terrorism and will boost communications aimed at solving the crisis in Syria.
