Ministry of Water Resources takes tight measures to ensure quality of drinking water

Damascus, SANA- Minister of Water Resources Kamal al-Sheikha affirmed Monday the solid cooperation between the Ministry and the donors in the domain of providing sterilization materials to all the areas across Syria without any exceptions.

Minister al-Sheikha underlined the importance of applying the project of monitoring the quality of the drinking water in the unsecure areas, particularly the water of wells and tankers.

Al-Sheikha made remarks during a meeting with Advisor to the Head of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent “SARC” Shaker Hanbali, Representative of the World Health Organization “WHO” Mohammad Kayyal and Coordinator of the Water Project at the SARC.

In turn, Hanbali underlined the importance of cooperation with the Ministry of Water Resources and the active role played by the ministry to overcome the obstacles and carry out the projects.

He indicated that 630 projects have been carried out in cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross “ICRC” and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), in addition to rehabilitating 5 wells in al-Huseinyia town in Damascus Countryside and extending a sewage line in Jwaiza village in the countryside.

He added that drinking water has also been provided for more than 600 temporary housing centers, in addition to the projects carried out by the “SARC” in Damascus Countryside, Aleppo, Homs, Deir Ezzor and other provinces.

Participants in the meeting agreed on the necessity of the constant coordination and of adopting a work mechanism that would guarantee the validity of the drinking water to maintain the health of the citizens.

Last May, Ministry of Water Resources signed a joint work agreement with UNICEF to carry out a number of the vital projects in the sector of water and sanitation and to provide the drinking water for the citizens in different areas.
