Higher Education Ministry discusses with ICRC propagating international humanitarian law in academic circles

Damascus, SANA – Minister of Higher Education Dr. Mohammad Amer al-Mardini discussed on Wednesday with Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Syria Marianne Gasser prospects of future cooperation, particularly in propagating the international humanitarian law in academic circles.

The minister affirmed the importance of cooperation in training and providing the necessary expertise for scientific and technical staffs and students in higher education institutions.

He pointed out to the efforts made by the ministry in capacity building in all fields and to the continued provision of health and education services in universities’ hospitals in spite of the unjust blockade and sanctions imposed on Syria.

For her part, Gasser reviewed the committee’s events in Syria and expressed its will to activate cooperation with the Higher Education Ministry, particularly in enhancing the Syrian academic capabilities, developing online learning and the publication of books dedicated to academics for teaching international humanitarian law.
She noted that the committee is working on developing its activities in Syria through training and preventive courses with Foreign and Expatriates Ministry, Justice Ministry, Health Ministry and Water Resources Ministry.
