Russia: Moscow, Damascus committed to political solution in Syria through dialogue

Moscow, SANA- Russian Foreign Ministry said Friday that Moscow and Damascus highly appreciated the document unanimously adopted at the conclusion  of the second round of the inter-Syrian Consultative Meeting held in Moscow during April 6-9.

“The two sides affirmed their commitment to the political settlement in Syria through the inter- Syrian dialogue without any foreign interference and on the basis of the items of Geneva Communiqué on June 30th, 2012,” Russia Today website quoted the Russian Foreign Ministry, following a meeting between Russian President’s special envoy to the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov and the Syrian delegation to Moscow, headed by Syria’s Permanent Representative to the UN Bashar al-Jaafari.

The Ministry said that the participants in the meeting underlined the necessity of continuing efforts to reach “an immediate halt to bloodshed in Syria,” in addition to achieving the national reconciliation among all the Syrians and defeating the international terrorists and extremists on the Syrian territories.

Earlier on Friday, al-Jaafari said that the government’s assessment of the consultative meeting was positive as the government’s delegation and those of the opposition sides made it through to a unified paper.

He added that the paper struck an important chord by tackling the Syrian people’s interests, providing an assessment of the dangers posed by terrorism and unifying the ranks of the Syrians in fighting it, as well as supporting the Syrian army and preserving the state’s institutions and other issues.
