Moscow, SANA –Members of the opposition figures participating in the second round of inter-Syrian talks held meetings on Monday at the Russian Foreign Ministry’s guest palace in Moscow.
The Syrian Arab Republic delegation, headed by Syria’s Permanent Representative at the UN Bashar al-Jaafari, arrived in Moscow. The delegation will participate in the meetings after the conclusion of meetings among opposition figures.
Meetings on Monday and Tuesday will be between opposition figures, and on Wednesday the Syrian Arab Republic delegation will meet with the opposition, and the closing session will be held on Thursday morning.
Sources following up on the proceedings of the meetings say that talks will focus on the need for uniting all Syrians’ efforts to combat terrorism, encourage reconciliation, and prepare for dialogue away from foreign interference.
The Russian capital hosted on January 26-29 the first round of talks that brought together representatives of the Syrian government and opposition figures and parties.
The discussions were held in the framework of consultations to prepare for a Syrian-Syrian dialogue to solve the crisis in the country, and ended up with the government’s delegation and some representatives of the opposition agreeing to a set of guidelines proposed by Russia.
The guidelines, which were called “Moscow principles,” stressed maintaining Syria’s sovereignty and unity, fighting terrorism, settling the crisis peacefully and politically, and rejecting any foreign interference.
The continued Russian efforts to host talks and resolve the crisis in Syria were discussed on March 22nd in a meeting between President Bashar al-Assad and Russia’s Special Envoy Azmatullah Kolmohammadov.
