Syria, WHO discuss prospects of supporting Homs health sector

Homs-SANA- The Governor of Homs, Namir Makhlouf, discussed with the WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean, Hanan Balkhy, ways to support the health sector in the governorate.

During the meeting, Makhlouf attached great importance to supporting the sector in the governorate, which was subjected to systematic sabotage during the terrorist war that affected most hospitals and health centers, pointing out the necessity of supplying this sector with medical equipment and supplies to continue providing its services.

Makhlouf voiced the governorate’s readiness to provide facilitations and capabilities for the work of WHO in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Balkhy noted the necessity of obtaining information to provide health care, taking into account the specificity and needs of each governorate, and paying attention to creating techniques to collect health information in determining priorities for faster progress.

She said that among the organization’s initiatives are the preservation of important human resources, access to health care, and the availability of medical staff and treatment, which can be achieved through the combined efforts by the governorate and the organization.

Touring health centers in Homs, Balkhy and her accompanying delegation were also briefed on the rehabilitation work of Homs Grand Hospital and Wadi al-Dhahab Health Center.
