Syria, WFP discuss means to boost cooperation

Damascus, SANA- Syria and the World Food Program (WFP) discussed on Monday means to strengthen the mechanisms of the program’s work in Syria, especially early recovery, in light of developments related to available funding for the current year.

That came during a meeting that brought together Minister of Local Administration and Environment and Head of the Supreme Relief Committee, Eng. Lamia Shakkour, and WFP Country Director and Representative in Syria, Kenneth Crossley.

Minister Shakkour highlighted importance of cooperation with the WFP program in the field of providing food aid under the supervision of the Supreme Relief Committee.

She underlined the importance of the program’s endeavor to increase support for those in need, especially in light of the unjust siege imposed on Syria and the unilateral coercive measures, which requires the continuation of implementing humanitarian aid projects.

For his part, Crossley stated that the new work mechanism of the program comes as a result of the lack of available funding, which requires more cooperation between the two sides to improve the response to the needs in Syria during the current year, with a focus on new initiatives within the framework of emergency aid and the continuation of implementing recovery projects and supporting livelihoods.
