UN General Assembly overwhelmingly adopts resolution demanding immediate ceasefire in Gaza

New York, SANA- The United Nations (UN) General Assembly on Tuesday overwhelmingly adopted a resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

153 states voted in favor of the draft resolution, and 9 states voted against it along with the Israeli occupation entity while 23 states abstained from voting.

The resolution calls for an immediate ceasefire for humanitarian reasons, the need to comply with obligations under international law, and to ensure the access of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.

It expressed deep concern about the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and the suffering of Palestinian civilians there, stressing the necessity of protecting them in accordance with international humanitarian law.
