With participation of Syria, COP28 Conference resumes activities in Dubai

Dubai, SANA- The 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 28) has resumed activities in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates.

With the participation of the Syrian technical delegation, a high-level meeting was held within the conference’s activities on the just energy transition.

Assistant Minister of Water Resources, Jihad Kanaan, stressed the need for justice and the principles of the Framework Agreement to be the basis for this transition, and that these basic principles must be respected, otherwise there will only be more major and devastating environmental impacts.

Kanaan added that there are many countries that have been suffering from sanctions that prevent them from accessing the funding resources, so that they can’t achieve their goals in reducing climate impacts.

He highlighted the necessity of working to lift these sanctions and provide all countries with the opportunity to access the funding resources, so that they can implement their environmental obligations in all fields, including the just energy transition.
