Damascus, SANA- Cuban Ambassador in Damascus, Luis Mariano Fernandez Rodrigues, expressed his confidence that the Summit of Heads of State and Government of the member countries of Group 77 and China, scheduled to be held in Havana, would be successful in the interest of the development of peoples and world peace.

In a press briefing on Tuesday about the summit scheduled to be held on September 15 and 16 under the motto “The current challenges of development and the role of science, technology and innovation”, Ambassador Rodriguez thanked the Syrian side participating in the summit for its support for the just causes of the countries of the South, including their right to access modern technologies and sciences and use them to achieve the goals of the sustainable development.

Rodriguez expressed his country’s readiness to help and stand by Syria as the two countries are resisting and struggling together for victory and preserving their sovereignty and independence.

The Ambassador stressed that sanctions and blockades will not be able to affect bilateral relations.

Rodriguez stated that the Havana Summit aims to enhance the aspirations of the 2030 Agenda through concrete measures and enhance international solidarity and cooperation, urging the industrialized countries to bear their responsibilities to support development efforts through cooperation between North and South.

The summit also aims at enhancing the joint action of the developing countries and maintaining their unity and strengthening their stance at the international multilateral forums, in addition to discussing the main challenges and basic issues and the contribution of science, technology and innovation in the sustainable development, according to the Cuban Ambassador.

It is noteworthy that the Group 77 and China was established on June 15, 1964 within the Non-Aligned Movement and faces great challenges for the development of its countries.
