Damascus describes US decision to partially and temporarily freeze sanctions as misleading

Damascus, SANA- Syria describes the decision issued by the US administration on the partial and temporary freezing of some of the deadly coercive and unilateral measures imposed on the Syrian people as misleading.

“The misleading decision issued by the US administration regarding the partial and temporary freezing of some of deadly and unilateral coercive measures imposed on the Syrian people is nothing more than a copy of previous sham decisions that seek to give a false humanitarian impression , since it stipulates alleged exemptions for humanitarian purposes and the facts on the ground proved its falsehood,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said in a statement on Friday.

The US coercive measures and US policies have deprived the Syrian people of their natural wealth which is being plundered and have limited the ability of state institutions to improve living standards, achieve development goals and provide basic services,” the statement read.

The new US decision confirms Washington’s adherence to its illegitimate sanctions and therefore the U.S. administration will not be able to deceive Syrians and the world with its attempts to embellish its image and evade its responsibility to obstruct rescue efforts and support those affected by the earthquake and meet the basic needs of the suffering Syrian people, the statement noted.

The Foreign Ministry demanded the US to immediately end, without hesitation, without conditions or exceptions, the unilateral coercive measures imposed on the Syrian people, and to stop its hostile practices and violations of international law and the principles and purposes of the UN Charter.

Syria calls on all countries and international organizations ,that have stood by the side of the Syrian people in their ordeal caused by the devastating earthquake and in their ongoing war against terrorism to demand the unconditional lifting of the inhumane, immoral and illegal blockade imposed to the Syrian people.
