Damascus, SANA- Local Administration and Environment Minister and head of the Higher Committee for Relief Hussein Makhlouf discussed, on Thursday with Executive Director of the World Food Program (WFP) David Beasley, WFP Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa Corinne Fleischer, and the accompanying delegation, means of boosting joint cooperation.
The two sides touched upon the possibility of expanding joint cooperation through increasing the support provided to Syria which would positively affect the citizens’ living.
Makhlouf stressed the importance of a rapid response to the needs of the population, and the implementation of further projects to reach the stage of recovery.
He hailed the joint cooperation between the Syrian government and the program to raise the level of support and aid in light of the increase in the number of the needy due to the unilateral sanctions imposed on the Syrian people by the West and the theft of natural resources of oil and wheat by the US and Turkish occupations.
The need to focus on livelihood projects which provide income-generating job opportunities that enable returnees to settle down, manage their affairs, develop their skills and increase their production, especially in the agricultural sector and irrigation systems, Makhlouf noted.
Beasley, in turn, expressed aspiration to expand the scope of the program’s work in Syria, secure the necessary support to the needy, and establish sustainable projects in their areas that contribute to improving their livelihood and the quality of their food.
Beasley added that efforts will be exerted to overcome all obstacles that impede rapid response, praising the cooperation and facilities that the program receives during its work in Syria.
