Patriarch Yazigi receives Orthodox Peoples Unity Award in Moscow

Moscow, SANA – Patriarch John X Yazigi, Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and All the East received the Orthodox Peoples Unity Award on Friday during a luxurious celebration at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in the Russian capital, Moscow.

Upon receiving the award, Patriach Yazigi made an impassioned speech in which he bemoaned the loss of “peaceful bygone times” in Syria which, he added, “has had enough with terrorism, abductions and economic blockade.”

The Patriarch painted a grim picture of a “woeful Orient” plagued by crises and tragedies brought about by “the blackmail of arms dealers, phony human rights advocates and hackneyed mottos.”

He also hailed the stances of Russia in calling for a peaceful solution to the crisis in the country and hoped an immediate release of the kidnapped bishops will be reached soon.

The Orthodox Peoples Unity Award is an annual award granted to presidents, governments and senior figures for their contribution to support the unity of the Orthodox peoples and empowering Christian values in the everyday life.
