Ambassador Khaddour: Syria develops its national laws in line with international conventions on crime prevention

Vienna, SANA- Syria’s permanent representative to the United Nations and other international organizations in Vienna , Hasan Khaddour, affirmed Syria’s keenness on developing its national laws in line with international conventions on prevention of crime.

“What stirs concern is the ability of terrorist and criminal groups to possess and use modern means of communication to carry out their crimes and marketing for hatred discourse,” Ambassador Khaddour said at the 31st session of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice.

He said that Syria has joined most of the international conventions concerned with crime prevention and is keen on developing its national laws in line with these international conventions.

“Syria, during the latest years, issued many laws on combating money laundering, preventing the financing of terrorism, kidnapping, combating information crimes, combating drugs and illegal immigration in the framework of exerting more efforts to enhance collective awareness about the danger of these crimes, building national capacities and raising the level of their competence,” Khaddour added.

He said that President Bashar al-Assad has recently issued Law No. 20 of 2022, which re-organizes the criminal legal rules on information crime, adding that the law aims to combat cybercrime in line with the technological development.
