First culture café includes workers with Down’s syndrome in Lattakia

Lattakia, SANA- Lina Daher launched her project of first culture café whose workers include people with Down’s syndrome with the aim of integrating those people with society.

Visitors feel love and positive energy as soon as they enter the café which characterized by simple designs, calm colors and warm atmospheres as two young women Marcel Skif aged 35, and Alia Preimo aged 22 serve the customers with a nice smile on their faces.

Both young women suffer Down syndrome expressed to SANA reporter their satisfaction for the new experience as it was the opportunity to interact with people directly.

“I was eagerly waiting for the morning to go to my new job, which was like an impossible dream, “ Ali said.

For her part, the owner of the project expressed happiness for making the project, which contributes to integrating people with disabilities into labor market.

She added that her project carries a humanitarian message that these people are different but capable and creative and not powerless. All they need care and training to be active members in their community.

The café has a space for handicrafts and household items (soaps, candles, embroidery and pickles) made by young men and women with disabilities, as well as a library and a permanent art exhibition.
