Cabinet approves bill on establishing institute for regional planning

Damascus, SANA – The Cabinet on Tuesday approved a bill on establishing a higher institute for regional planning in Damascus University due to the need for specialists in that field that would provide expertise for devising development strategies.

Chairing the session, Prime Minister Wael al-Halaqi said that the recent rain and snow fall should have a positive impact on irrigation projects and water resources, stressing the need to help citrus farmers who were affected by the weather conditions.

He also lauded the efforts of workers in the services and economic sectors and the army and security personnel to deal with the repercussions of the snowstorm.

Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem briefed the Cabinet on political developments on the international arena, noting that recent events in France proved the veracity of Syria’s warning about terrorism rebounding and affecting its supports.

Al-Moallem underlined the increasing rate of implementing reconciliations in several areas in Syria, saying that 2015 will be the year of emerging from the crisis in Syria and moving towards restoring security and stability.

In turn, Local Administration Minister Omar Ghalawanji reviewed the performance of the services sector and the efforts that were made to deal with the effects of the snowstorm, while Social Affairs Minister Kinda al-Shammat briefed the ministers on the general directives of the national strategy for elderly care for 2014-2015, which the Cabinet approved.
