Sabbagh: Western countries turned Security Council into a platform to circulate lies against Syria

New York, SANA- Syria’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Bassam Sabbagh, affirmed that some Western countries have turned Security Council into a platform to market lies against Syria regarding its cooperation with the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) and presenting an incorrect image about it and directing false accusations.

Sabbagh added that Syria has voluntarily joined the Chemical weapons Convention and during a record time, it fulfilled all its obligations resulting from this accession.

Sabbagh, during a session of the Security Council on Thursday about Syria , stressed that Syria has repeatedly expressed its strong condemnation of the use of chemical weapons by anyone, in anywhere and under any circumstances, and affirmed that it has no longer possessed any form of those weapons.

“Despite that, Syria is subjected to campaigns of false and baseless accusations about cases of alleged use of chemical weapons with the aim of diverting the attention of the international community from the use of these weapons by terrorist organizations,” Sabbagh added.
