Damascus, SANA – The People’s Assembly listened to answers by Interior Minister Mohammad al-Shaar on various issues including ones related to issuing passports and ID cards and improving the living standards of police personnel.
Responding to queries by Assembly members, al-Shaar said that in order to deal with the long queues in Immigration and Passports Centers in Damascus, a new center was rented and equipped to run by the one-window system, and that this center will be opened soon, noting that the current centers are operating until midnight and that work is underway to set up a system to apply for a passport online.
He also said that a new system for issuing ID cards is being set up, and delays in issuing IDs in Aleppo is due to the increased number of requests for replacing damaged or lost IDs, long power outage times, and the difficulty of procuring materials for making IDs.
The Minister also addressed queries on including Interior Ministry personnel in the Social Securities Law, saying that this requires a number of legislative amendments.
The Assembly referred the bill on establishing first instance and appeals courts in provinces specializing in lawsuits for removing joint ownership the bill on amending the law for judicial expenses and fees to the constitutional and legislative affairs committee.
