Coronavirus global death toll nears one million, infections surge

Capitals, SANA- The novel coronavirus (Covid-19) has claimed the lives of more than 987,748 people around the world since its appearance last December.

The Worldometer, which is run by a number of experts and developers, mentioned that the total number of the coronavirus infections on the global level has reached up to 32,413,887 while the recoveries amounted to 23,928,589.

In the United States of America, which is on the top of the countries which have been mostly affected by the virus, the number of infections has exceeded 7,185,471 while the death toll has climbed to 207,538.

In Canada, the health authorities in the provinces of Quebec and Ontario announced two deaths from the coronavirus and 991 new infections during the past twenty-four hours, which brought the number of deaths in Ontario to 2,835 since the beginning of the pandemic.

Meanwhile, in Quebec, the death toll has reached 5,810, while 582 new coronavirus infections have been recorded, bringing the total number of infections there to 69,670, of which 59,943 have recovered.

In Germany, data issued by Robert Koch Institute (RKI) for Infectious Diseases showed today that the number of infections in the country increased by 2,153 to reach 280,223 in total, and the number of deaths increased by 15 cases to reach 9,443.

In China, the National Health Committee said that the mainland recorded eight new infections yesterday, compared with seven cases the previous day, and the total number of infections in China so far has reached 85,322, while the number of total deaths remained unchanged at 4,634.

In India, the number of infection rose to 5.82 million, after 86,052 new cases have been recorded during the past twenty-four hours.

The Indian Ministry of Health data showed that 1,141 fatalities have been recorded, , taking the total death toll to 92,290.
